The 1C50UL is a type of circuit breaker designed specifically for protection against short circuits and overloads. It is a miniature, lightweight circuit breaker that is UL approved to UL489 and IEC 60947-2.
Application Field of 1C50UL
The 1C50UL circuit breaker can be used to protect motors, generators, or other equipment with current of up to 50A. It is widely used in OEM solutions, in various industrial applications (e.g. process control, HVAC, etc.), as well as in residential buildings and homes for domestic protection.
Working Principle of 1C50UL
The 1C50UL circuit breaker is equipped with a thermal-magnetic tripping unit, which works by sensing both the heat generated by an overload and the magnetic force of a short circuit.
The thermal-magnetic tripping unit contains two types of sensors: a bimetal strip and an electromagnet. The bimetal strip is composed of two strips of metal with different thermal expansion coefficients, which are joined together. When exposed to heat, the strips don’t expand at the same rate, which creates a bend in the strip. This creates a mechanical force which causes the tripping unit to operate.
The electromagnet is composed of a coil wrapped around an iron core. The stray magnetic field generated by a short circuit will create a force on the core which causes the coil to pull in, completing the circuit and triggering the tripping unit to operate.
In addition, the 1C50UL circuit breaker is equipped with a manual reset button and a high-visibility LED indication light that indicates when the circuit breaker has tripped.
