2.5SZE120M1.4X7.3 Aluminum-Polymer Capacitors are typically used in a wide variety of applications where room has at a premium or where the weight or size of the capacitor must be kept to a minimum to avoid disruption of existing components. Common uses include power supplies, DC/DC converters, switch mode power supplies, filter circuits and low-duty cycle pulsed load applications.Aluminum-polymer capacitor technology takes several distinct forms; the technologies are also referred to as aluminum polymer “hybrid” (APH) capacitors, hybrid electrolytic capacitors (HECs) and aluminum-polymer hybrid capacitors (ACHCs). While originally targeted as replacements for electrolytic capacitors, the addition of high temperature stable aluminum-polymer technologies has increased the technical merit for higher voltage and power applications. The working principle of an Aluminum Polymer Capacitor occurs when a thin layer of an electrically conductive polymer, typically referred to as the Polymer Gel, is sandwiched between two parallel layers of aluminum foil electrodes. This polymer gel acts as the dielectric insulator, allowing the safe insulation and passage of electricity around the capacitor. The aluminum-polymer capacitor utilizes a unique composite dielectric, made of a very thin aluminum oxide layer interposed between layers of polypropylene film, in combination with a gel formulation and the aluminum foil electrode. A vapor-deposited conductive mineral serves as a top electrode and contacts the two main electrodes. This hybrid structure offering both high reliability and high energy density, which allows capacitor manufacturers to design and produce Aluminum-polymer capacitors with much lower ESR, ESL, DC leakage and higher capacitance than traditional aluminum electrolytic capacitors and are smaller in size for a given capacitance. This provides the ability to replace multiple aluminum electrolytic capacitors in a single package.Aluminum-polymer capacitors are used throughout many industries, from automotive and industrial to consumer electronics and medical.
