IMS also offer superior protection of data through their design. Typically all connections are secured by the host board and the data transfer process is done within the board instead of externally. This prevents accidental disconnection and makes it difficult for unauthorized users to gain access to the memory. Additionally, the longer the pins in the IMS, the more secure the data is.

The next type of memory connector is the External Memory Connector or EMC. This type of connector provides better protection for the memory and is usually used in data storage systems. The EMC permits access to the memory through a connector that is mounted externally and can easily be connected to the memory device without any soldering. The most common External Memory Connector is the ATA interface, which serves as an industry standard for connecting the memory without the need for soldering or an external connector.

EMC also provides simpler installation for data storage systems. Instead of mounting a connector to the logic board, EMCs can simply be attached to an external port or device and immediately begin data transfers. EMCs are also ideal for transferring large amounts of data between devices because they can securely transfer data without any physical damage occurring to the memory or the equipment.
