Gas Discharge Tube arresters (GDT) are commonly used in industrial and residential environments to protect housing and other equipment from electrical surges and spikes. They are often referred to as surge arrester(s) or surge protection device(s). GDTs are electronic components designed to interrupt an electrical current flowing through an electrical system. They are typically used to protect sensitive electrical systems from power disturbances caused by transient voltage spikes and currents. GDTs are composed of linear GDTs (LGDTs) and non-linear GDTs (NLGTs). The former types are favored in industrial applications due to their relatively low cost and simple installation. LGDTs use a specially designed p-n junction diode with a specific voltage range, that cuts off the current at a given voltage threshold due to the voltage drop across the diode. NLGTs provide more reliable protection and have a higher level of voltage breakdown. They use zinc-oxide cells together with series- parallel- switched patents for efficient arc handling.2035-35-SM-RP, or Supermax Rapid Pulse Appliance Arresters, are a type of GDT specifically designed for rapid changes in voltage.
