The Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) have been present in the electrical system since the 1960’s. GDTs are designed to provide protection against transient voltage surges. The GDTs are used to provide a current-limiting effect to protect the equipment and reduce the size of the surge and its energy level.A GDT consists of a hollow glass tube containing a gas mix that provides a dielectric cushion between two electrodes.
