Working Principle

The 20ETS08STRL diode rectifier comprises a semiconductor material with a negative charge carrier concentration and a positive charge carrier concentration, often called negative and positive doping concentration. The doping and the structure of the semiconductor material create a diode junction and enable the diode to be turned ON or OFF in response to an input voltage.

When the voltage across the diode junction is biased in the forward direction, the diode is turned ON, resulting in a current flowing through the junction. This situation is known as forward-bias conduction. On the other hand, when the junction is backward biased, the diode is turned OFF. In this situation, no current flows through the diode.

The Rectification Process

The rectification process is the core of the diode working principle. This process is the conversion of AC voltage into DC voltage. The rectification process is achieved when an AC voltage is applied to a two-diode rectifier circuit. The first diode is forward biased and will allow the half-cycle of the applied AC voltage to pass through it. During the opposite half-cycle of the applied AC voltage, it will be blocked by the second diode. In this way, the AC voltage is converted into DC voltage.
