Each row of contacts consists of 72 placed in a rectangular formation in two columns of 36. The contacts are located in a standard spacing of 0.156 inches between centres, and the two rows of contacts are spaced 0.406 inches apart within the connector body. The connectors allow the connection of up to two rows of unshielded wires and are available in both solder and crimp termination styles for mating with 19 wire sizes. The contacts are void of any tinning for purposes of superior protection from fatigue. DESIGN, SHAPE AND SIZE

ARINC 211700-1 Backplane Connector has a rectangular design which takes up less room than the traditional circular design. The overall profile of the connector is composed of two series of contacts that are mirror images of each other. It is designed to a 12.5 mm pitch on each side, making the connector fit into a 20x20 mm space. The two rows of contacts are 12.5 mm pitch in size and are 0.406 inches apart in the centre of the connector and 0.156 inches apart between each contact. The contacts are constructed of bronze and the insulator is composed of toughened phenolic plastic.
