24AA08T-I/OT application field and working principle

The 24AA08T-I/OT is an 8-Kbit serial electrically erasable programmable memory (EEPROM) with a guaranteed uniformity between device to device for the 8kB memory sizes. It provides the capability to store and retrieve data along with low-voltage operations, compatibility with I2C protocol, and improved write cycle endurance. The 24AA08T-I/OT also offers enhanced stability, accelerated programming time and improved accuracy in an 8-pin TDFN package.

Applications

Working Principle

The 24AA08T-I/OT EEPROM has a row and column decoder, where the memory matrix is divided into rows and columns of data. Data is written to, read from, and erased from the cell array using a combination of the row and column decoder. The EEPROM interface (which includes the I2C bus) provides external access to the memory cell array. All write cycles and other operations are locally controlled by the 24AA08T-I/OT.

To write data to the 24AA08T-I/OT, the following operations are required: first, the memory address is written to the address register, then a write command is issued to the programming register and finally the data to be written is written the data register. The data written to the data register is then transferred to the addressed memory cell. To read data from the 24AA08T-I/OT, the memory address is written to the address register and a read command is issued to the control register. The data is then transferred from the addressed memory cell to the data register.

The 24AA08T-I/OT EEPROM also supports an erase command. When the erase command is issued, the EEPROM goes into the erase operation and erases the selected row or sector. After the erase operation is completed, the data in the memory cell array is reset to all zeroes.
