24LC08B-I/ST is a kind of non-volatile Serial EEPROM that is widely utilized in memory storage and storage applications. By using I2C bus as the effective protocol, it offers extended abilities for most of I2C applications such as general purpose registers, wireless communications, industrial control, etc. This type of EEPROM integrates 8-byte memory cells (organizing up to 128-byte words) in a single chip. Working Principle
The 24LC08B-I/ST consists of a memory array and I2C-bus protocol logic, which performs bidirectional data flow with the microcontroller. In order to increase the storage space, multiple devices can be daisy-chained together on the same I2C bus accurately.The I2C bus is a two-wire serial interface consisting of a clock line (SCL) and a data line (SDA). The 24LC08B-I/ST device is operated by a master device. Upon receiving START and STOP conditions, the master device can perform Write and Read operations on the slave device. Data is written to and read from the memory array within specific addresses.
The actual format of a data word is either one-byte (1 x 8), two-byte (2 x 8), four-byte (4 x 8), eight-byte (8 x 8), or sixteen-byte (16 x 8). The master device is able to write data one byte at a time or up to sixteen bytes once that is only followed by four-byte address written as per device. All operations are initiated by the master device.
In order to provide enhanced security, the 24LC08B-I/ST incorporates features such as memory write protect, read protection bits and memory configuration bits. Moreover, its write cycle time is 8ms, which allows users to access its memory quickly. Additionally, it consists of pin change interrupts that prompt the user when a change in input occurs, such as power failure, in order to backup the data.
The 24LC08B-I/ST contains some in-built features to prevent loss of data due to power failure. It offers write protect features like write protection bits, memory configuration bits and control logic that can help to store data without encountering power failure. Additionally, an Enhanced Speed Serial Interface (ESSI) can raise the speed of data transfer and allow multiple devices to be chained on the same I2C bus.
