24LC21AT-I/SN is one kind of Non-Volatile memories (NVMs) and is classified as electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM). Specifically, it is a 2 Kbits of serial Electrically Erasable PROM (EEPROM). It provides distributed identifying characteristic across all system boards. Also, it can store the data over a wide temperature range from -55° to +125° C.
The main application of 24LC21AT-I/SN is in embedded sources which are commonly used in industrial, commercial and automotive areas. The device is mainly used for storing of firmware, communication interface settings, coding and other critical information. Apart from this, the device is used in tracking systems, metering, healthcare, automotive and other such systems. These are also used in motion controllers, automobile chassis and body control, battery and fuel monitoring, washing machines and entertainment systems.

The 24LC21AT-I/SN EEPROM operates on a read-only principle. This means that the user can only read from the device and not write or modify its contents. The device uses a two-wire serial communications protocol for data exchange. The serial data can be transmitted at bit rates of up to 1 Mbps and beyond. The communication interface also allows for two-way communication between the host device and the EEPROM.
The EEPROM can be set to different I/O operation modes. These include standard 7-bit I2C mode, 7-bit 2-Wire mode, 7-bit 2-Wire transmission mode, 8-bit 2-Wire mode and 10-bit I2C & 2-Wire mode. The 24LC21AT-I/SN EEPROM is also equipped with a 7-bit I2C Bus Arbitration Interrupt signal that is used for detecting a bus collision or an error during bus arbitration.
In terms of operating temperature range, the 24LC21AT-I/SN EEPROM operates in the range of -55°C to +125°C. This versatility makes it applicable to various applications. The device has a current consumption of 10mA (typical), which is much lower than that of other EEPROMs. This makes it more suitable for applications where power consumption is limited.
In addition, the device has data retention characteristics that are superior to other EEPROMs. This allows the device to be used for longer periods of time without losing data. Data is stored on the EEPROM in the form of electrical charges stored in capacitors on the chip. These charges are retained even after power is removed from the device.
