25AA160/P Applications and Working Principle
The 25AA160/P is a 16K bit Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) device that is used in a variety of applications. The device is manufactured by Microchip Technology Inc. and is available in an 8-pin SOIC package.
The 25AA160/P has an array of 8k x 8 bits of EEPROM memory that is characterized by an unlimited write cycle endurance and a very wide operating temperature range. It is designed for industrial control applications, communications systems, embedded controllers, and automotive applications. The device is ideal for a variety of applications where there is a need to store or update data without a battery backup.
The 25AA160/P operates in two modes, the Read Mode and the Write Mode. The Read Mode is used to access the contents of the memory array. To do this the address of the desired data is entered into the device. The data outputs from the device are the contents of that memory location. The Write Mode is used to change the contents of the memory array. To do this, the address and data to be programmed into the memory is entered into the device.
The device is capable of achieving a very fastwrite cycle time of 140 μs. It is also able to operate at a wide range of temperatures, with an operating range of-55°C to +125°C. The device also has excellent signal and power integrity characteristics.
Each memory array is organized as 8k x 8 bits and is programmed by providing the internal address and the data word. The 25AA160/P supports a serialmbed SPI interface that allows for fast data transfers. The device has four control pins, named Chip Select (CS), Clock (SCLK), Serial Data Input (DIN) and Serial Data Output (DOUT). The CS pin allows for multiple devices to be connected to the same bus.
The 25AA160/P operates over a wide supply voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5 V. It also has an internal power-on reset circuit which resets the device when the VCC supply reaches a valid voltage level. The device is also protected from latch-up due to extremely low supply voltages.
The 25AA160/P is suited to applications that require frequent writes to and/or reads from non-volatile memory such as, industrial process control, automotive applications and embedded controllers.
