The 25AA320A-I/SN is a serial Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM). The EEPROM is operated using an SPI protocol and offers small footprints, low power, and high write performance. With its 256-byte of organized array, the 25AA320A-I/SN is ideally suited for application in portable battery-powered data storage and communication, and specific interest sectors.
Application Field
The 25AA320A-I/SN device can be used to store configuration information and essential data in various types of applications like medical instrumentation and medical systems, home appliances, industrial automation and process control. Working Principle
The WREN# (Write enable#) pin can control the write access to the array through the SPI interface. The WPEN# (Write protect enable#) pin allows the 25AA320A-I/SN\'s memory array to be protected from write operations. The SCLK (Serial Clock or SCK) provides a clock pulse and is used to synchronize data and address transmission. The SO (Serial Data Output) sends data in serial stream from the EEPROMS to the external system. The SI (Serial Data Input) is used to transfer data from the external system to the EEPROM. The CS# (Chip Select) is used to enable/disable the SPI data transmission between the EEPROM and the external system.
The 25AA320A-I/SN can be programmed with any 8-bit data byte by sending in the byte along with the write operation command. After completion of the write operation the device issues an acknowledge bit, ACK#. Then a write cycle is performed, where the new data is written into the EEPROM array and a logic high is issued to the ACK#. But in order to ensure proper writing, it is necessary to write low to the SCLK during the acknowledge pulse.
The 25AA320A-I/SN device can isolate specific memory locations from receiving write data by using the write protect pin. This pin can be accessed low to allow write operations and brought high for protecting the EEPROM. In this way, it is possible to make the memory portions that hold sensitive data as write protected. The device also features powerful static protection logic that renders it immune to static discharges.
