Single Conductor Cables (Hook-Up Wire) are cable assemblies designed for the purpose of providing electrical connections to devices and devices in a confined space. They are available in a variety of sizes, materials, and voltage ratings for a variety of applications. Utilizing single conductor cables is convenient and quick, as they eliminate the need for bulky or complex wiring connections and require fewer components. The 2722/16 GN/M, also known as UL 2722 or the UL/CSA Style 16 Conductor, is one such cable and is designed for high voltage applications.

UL/CSA Style 16 Conductor cables are composed of 16-gauge stranded copper conductors housed in a PVC (vinyl) jacket. The insulated conductors are twisted together in pairs of four for easy assembly and termination. The design of the cable is intended for applications such as use in well pumps, water treatment facilities, and various industrial, commercial, and residential applications. As a High Voltage rated cable, the UL 2722 is rated up to 600 volts (VAC) and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor, exposed to direct sunlight, environments.

The 180°C thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) jacket provides flexibility, tear and weather resistance, and abrasion resistance. The fine-stranded copper conductors supplied provide excellent conductivity and flexibility. This design reduces installation labor and provides versatile wiring capability as it can be cut and spliced to various lengths.

No additional insulation is necessary when using the 2722/16 GN/M cable assembly, however the conductors should be used with appropriate terminal blocks, lugs, and other connectors for safe and reliable connections. The wiring connections should always be performed by a qualified electrician using UL or CSA approved tools and methods.

The working principle of 2722/16 GN/M cable assembly is extremely simple. When two devices are connected using a pair of tined copper conductors, electric current is allowed to flow between the two devices. The electricity goes through the conductors, the wires, from one device to the other. This electricity then runs through the entire length of the cable assembly before it reaches the other. The resistance of the cable along with the voltage of the electricity dictate how much power flows through the cable assembly.

Due to its design, the UL 2722/16 GN/M cable assembly is capable of transferring up to 600 volts (VAC) safely and reliably for various applications. The design of the insulation makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, which is especially beneficial for applications where the cable assembly is installed in an exposed environment. This cable assembly is also constructed with a flexible thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) jacket which makes it highly resistant to prolonged exposure to sunlight, chemicals, and moisture.

The 2722/16 GN/M single conductor cable assembly provides an efficient solution when connecting devices in a confined space. It is easy to install due to its flexibility, and it is also highly resistant to tearing, abrasion, and weathering.
