Temperature Sensors - Thermocouple, Temperature Probes
28130 application field and working principle are widely used for measuring temperature in industrial applications. A thermocouple is made up of two dissimilar metals, typically copper and iron, which are joined together at one end to form the junction. This junction is then exposed to the temperature being measured.
As the temperature changes, the two metals expand at different rates. This expansion causes a voltage to be generated at the junction, which can be used to measure the temperature. This generated voltage in a thermocouple is called the Seebeck effect.
Thermocouples are widely used because they are reliable, durable, and cost-effective. Additionally, they are simple to install and require minimal maintenance.
Thermocouples are available in a variety of styles and sizes and for a variety of temperature ranges. Common thermocouple types include Type J, Type K, Type E, Type N, and Type R. Each type has its own temperature range, output voltage, and compensating lead wire.
Temperature probes, or thermistors, work similarly to thermocouples. They are typically composed of two different materials, typically metals or ceramics, that are exposed to the temperature being measured. When the temperature changes, the two materials contract or expand at different rates, resulting in a voltage being generated which can be used to measure the temperature.
Temperature probes are generally more accurate than thermocouples, as they are not affected by the type of junction used, as well as by external electrical and magnetic fields. They are typically much smaller than thermocouples, which makes them suitable for use in applications where space is limited.
Temperature sensors, such as thermocouples and temperature probes, offer a variety of benefits. In addition to being cost-effective and reliable, they are also simple to install and require minimal maintenance. Additionally, they are available in a variety of styles and sizes, giving you the flexibility to choose the one that best fits your application.
