Memory Connectors - PC Card Sockets

PC card sockets, also known as Personal Computer Memory Connectors, are used to connect PC cards, or Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) cards, to a computer system. PC card sockets provide for direct attachment of external cards, thereby ensuring that no cables, power supplies, or any other accessories are necessary to power the card. PC card sockets are a type of memory connector, and are used to connect expansion cards to a computer system. These PC cards can be inserted into the socket and the computing installation using the plug-and-play standard. The plug-and-play standard makes the usage of additional peripheral devices (like video cards, modems, etc.) easy and fast. With plug-and-play technology, no drivers or software installation is necessary to use the extra peripheral device. This helps in connecting to the PC\'s mainboard in order to receive power and data. There is also communication between the PC card and the socket, such as signaling of the card\'s presence and the transmission of status and control signals to and from the PC card sockets.
