Aluminum - Polymer Capacitors are widely used in electronics such as consumer, automotive and computing applications for their reliable service life and capacitance values. Different capacitor technologies offer different benefits, but aluminum-polymer capacitors have become increasingly popular with their features of high-capacitance, low external voltage, small size, and excellent stability. As part of aluminum-polymer capacitors family, 2SW390M is widely used in industrial applications, consumer electronics, automotive, computer peripherals and other electronic equipment.

2SW390M is a Types X2 polymeric aluminum electrolytic capacitor designed to meet different requirements, it has a reverse voltage range of 25 V–400 V, and capacitance range of 680 μF-4000 μF. It is one of the largest available polymeric aluminum electrolytic capacitors with long-term high reliability, which makes it useful and reliable for a wide variety of applications, such as automotive and industrial applications.

2SW390M works on principle of an electrode made up of aluminum, having an oxide layer as an electrolyte, along with an organic polymer layer as the second dielectric material, and an electron-providing material such as carbon, to provide the electrons for it.

The aluminum foil is the anode and a carbon-filled polymer is the cathode. The aluminum gains a positive charge from the electrolyte, and the polymer gains a negative charge from the electrolyte, thus forming a “double-layer” structure which is the basis of its function as a capacitor.

The capacitance of a 2SW390M is determined by the area of the aluminum-oxide layer as well as the dielectric constant of the polymer and the thickness of the oxide layers. The higher the area and dielectric constant, the greater the capacitance.

2SW390M capacitors are also characterized by their low equivalent series resistance (ESR), making it suitable for high frequency applications, such as in computer peripheral power supplies. The low ESR also helps to minimize heat generation while still providing the necessary current demands.

2SW390M also has excellent voltage coefficient and stability, which helps to ensure a longer shelf life and reliable performance in applications. As compared to multi-layer ceramic capacitors, aluminum-polymer capacitors have a lower temperature coefficient, making them suitable for temperature sensitive applications. They also have higher insulation resistance than other types of film capacitors, making them ideal for circuits requiring noise reduction and smooth operation.
