Aluminum - Polymer Capacitors

Aluminum - Polymer capacitors (also referred to as polymer electrolytic capacitors) are a modern technology based upon the same principles as traditional electrolytic capacitors. The main difference between the two types of capacitors is the dielectric material. Instead of using a porous oxide dielectric as in traditional electrolytic capacitors, aluminum-polymer capacitors use a polymer dielectric material.

The 2SXB150M is a type of aluminum-polymer capacitor, specifically a special case known as a Pseudo-Capacitor (PC). PC\'s differ from standard electrolytic capacitors in that they do not use electrolytes, but instead use a polymerized film as the dielectric, resulting in a very small leakage current. The 2SXB150M is an axial type component, through-hole, with a rated capacitance of 100uF at 6.3V. It features high capacitance and low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR).

This dielectric material is much more reliable, due to its inherent self-healing attributes, which is the ability of the dielectric material to self-repair any damaged areas, which restores it to its original condition.

The major advantage of this capacitor is the extremely low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR), particularly at high frequencies. It ensures that the current passing through the capacitor does not cause any significant voltage drops, and ultimately provides improved power performance. The low ESR also has the added benefit of allowing for larger ripple currents, meaning that more current can be used with minimum power distortion.

This capacitor also features a long life expectancy, which means that the capacitor will last longer than traditional electrolytic capacitors. This is because the polymer dielectric consists of a solid sheet material, so it will not corrode or suffer any structural damage over time.
