Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is a form of electrical noise that can interfere with the operations of various electrical and electronic devices. EMIshields, such as 4200-004, are composed of inductors and capacitors, which form LC (inductance-capacitance) and RC (resistance-capacitance) networks. In general, the working principle of 4200-004 EMIshields is to block or reduce the amount of EMI that passes through the system. This can be done by creating a shield around the equipment or filtering out the EMI. The 4200-004 uses multiple inductor and capacitor components to form a LC and RC networks. These components work together to create a high-impedance barrier and to filter out the undesired frequencies.
For the LC (inductance-capacitance) network, the inductor dissipates energy and the capacitor stores it. When an alternating electromagnetic wave of the desired frequency range passes through the network, the inductor and capacitor push against each other, allowing only the desired frequencies to pass through and blocking the others. By using multiple LC components, the desired frequencies can be passed along while the undesired frequencies are blocked or attenuated.
For the RC (resistance-capacitance) network, the resistors dissipate energy while the capacitors store it. In this network, the resistance and capacitance of the components work together to create an attenuator, which is capable of providing both frequency and reactance filtering. The RC network can be tuned to filter out a specific frequency range while allowing the desired frequencies to pass through.
