Trimmer Potentiometers
Trimmer potentiometers, sometimes referred to as trimpots or trim pots, are variable resistors such as the 4275X103K. They are used for fine adjustment of an electrical circuit in order to obtain a desired output. Trim pots are commonly available in a variety of sizes, power ratings and resistance values. The power rating of trimpots is usually specified in watts, and is determined by the maximum current it can handle before heat dissipation becomes a problem. The maximum current typically ranges from 500mA to 5A.The resistance of trim pots is usually rated in Ohms, though some are also rated in Farads. The most common resistance values for trim pots range from approximately 10 ohms to 100K ohms, though there are some that can range up to hundreds of K ohms.In most applications, the trimmer potentiometer is connected in series with the other components of the circuit, giving it the ability to modify the circuit\'s output. Additionally, the trimmer potentiometer can be used as a variable resistor in a resistor-capacitor (RC) circuit, with the capacitor providing storage of the current changes that occur when the potentiometer is adjusted.
