Description and Working Principle

For example, a shift register with the binary code 001110111 (3F in hexadecimal notation), will turn "on" the LED segments indicating a "1", "2" and "4". As a result, the LED indicator will display the numerical value "124" in a 7-Segment format. The indication code can be changed by simply altering the shift register value.
