Oscillators

Oscillators are electronic circuits responsible for generating repetitive electrical signals. They are widely used in many electronic devices because they are convenient and easy to design. One of the most popular oscillators is the 530AC161M133DGR, which is a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO).

Application Field

The 530AC161M133DGR is an Integrated Circuit (IC) designed for use in pulse, frequency and modulation applications. It also has been used in many different types of Radar and communications systems. It is used in applications such as frequency hopping, signal generators, VCOs, phase locked loops and frequency synthesizers. Furthermore, due to its low noise and low power consumption, it is a suitable choice for mobile and commercial radio systems.

Working Principle

The 530AC161M133DGR VCO integrates two main sections: a VCO Signal Divider and a Logic Driver. The Signal Divider takes the input square wave, divides it using a flip-flop, and produces two output waveforms which are pushed through an Exclusive-OR logic gate. Depending on the input frequency and the division ratio, one of the outputs of the Exclusive-OR gate will be checkered (LH/HH) and the other one will be a PWM signal.

The Logic Driver section is then used to set the output frequency of the PWM signal based on the current mode setting of the VCO. This section provides 6 outputs, each with its own voltage-dependent switching level. Depending on the current voltage level of the input signal, the Voltage-Controlled Oscillator can be put in 3 different operation modes: Revolution, Mode A, and Mode B.

The Revolution Mode is the default operating mode and provides the highest output frequency available (100 MHz). In this mode, the VCO switches at every single cycle of the input square wave. In Mode A, the output is equal to the division ratio of the input signal, and the VCO switches at half the clock frequency. Finally, in Mode B, the output is 10 times lower than the division ratio, and the VCO switches at one tenth the clock frequency.

The 530AC161M133DGR VCO is a versatile and reliable oscillator ideal for many different types of applications. It is easy to configure and is available with a variety of operating modes, frequencies, and voltage-controlled switches.
