Working Principle

The working principle may vary depending on the type of terminal block used. In general, a connection is made by a pin, tab, or spring-loaded Terminal block. The connection is made by inserting the wire into the correct size of the terminal block, and then tightening the screw or similar connection locking device to secure the wire.

The pin terminal block includes a lip for insertion of the wire and a pin that passes through the lip and locks the wire in place by being clamped between the lip and a head of the pin. The tab terminal block includes multiple tabs that insert the wire and then secure it in place with a screw or other clamping device. The spring-loaded terminal block includes a spring loaded hole or pins that accept wires of different sizes and provide a secure connection. In most types of terminal blocks, the wire is connected using insulation displacement, in which the wire is pressed against one or more contacts that pierce the insulation and connect with the conductor.
