Multiple conductor cables, such as the 5714/1601 GR001, are used in a variety of applications. The common characteristics of all multiple conductor cables is that they have multiple individual conductors. The individual conductors in a multiple conductor cable may be arranged in pairs, triads, and quadraples; or in any combination of these configurations. The purpose of having multiple conductors is to provide power and signals over a much greater distance than could be achieved with a single conductor.

The 5714/1601 GR001 is a two-conductor, screened, V- Twist type of cable. It provides a greater number of conductor twists per inch than the more common U-Twist type. This makes the 5714/1601 GR001 ideal for power and signal applications requiring low crosstalk, such as low-level RF signal cables, instrumentation cables, digital audio cables, and other types of high- frequency cable installations. The greater number of conductor twists also reduces the noise immunity of the cables, a feature which is especially important for applications requiring low-noise operation.

In addition to its low crosstalk features, the 5714/1601 GR001 also features a flexible, yet strong, outer insulation which can withstand high voltage applications. This cable is also UL approved for use in an industrial environment. This cable is rated up to 105 degrees Celsius and is available in various lengths up to 1500 feet (457 meters). The outer insulation is resistant to abrasion, chemicals, oil, water, fungus, and rodents.

The working principle of this cable is based upon a phenomenon known as the Lorentz force law which states that an electrical current (I) in a wire with a magnetic field (B) produces a force (F) which is equal to the product of the two. This force (F), when directed along the length of the wire, can be used to generate an electromotive force (EMF). In the case of the 5714/1601 GR001 cable, the EMF is generated by the difference in the diameters of the inner conductor and the outer shield. The outer shield acts to reduce the EMF generated by the inner conductor by delaying the response of the EMF to the difference in the diameters of the two conductors.

The 5714/1601 GR001 is designed for the transmission of power and signals over long distances and is suitable for a variety of applications. It is suitable for telephone lines, power distribution systems, computer cabling, audio and video applications, industrial automation, instrumentation, and control systems. It is also suitable for use in applications requiring low crosstalk, such as in low-level RF signal cables and instrumentation cables. The 5714/1601 GR001 is UL approved for use in an industrial environment and is rated up to 105 degrees Celsius.
