TVS - Diodes, such as 5KP250CA, are a type of surge protection device (SPD) used to protect against electronic circuit failures caused by over voltage or transients present in power and signaling lines. It is designed to shunt large and sudden excesses of voltage away from the critical circuit elements by efficiently conducting it to ground. A TVS diode consists of a PN junction that can be triggered to breakdown and conduct large amounts of electric current within a certain range of voltage.
