The 5KP85C has a peak pulse power rating of 3000W (1ms pulse width), a breakdown voltage range of 83 to 109 volts, and a clamping voltage of 140 volts.The working principle of the 5KP85C is quite simple. When a voltage surge appears at its terminals, the device begins to conduct current through its body diode, thus clamping the voltage at its breakdown voltage. This prevents any further damage to the protected circuitry, as the transient voltage is lowered immediately. In addition, the 5KP85C also has a built-in avalanche structure which rapidly dissipates any further overvoltage, thus preventing any additional damage.
