5KP9.0CA is a unidirectional bi-directional bidirectional, non-silicon avalanche TVS diode for overvoltage protection. Working Principle
The working principle of 5KP9.0CA is similar to other TVS diodes. When a voltage higher or lower than its working voltage is applied to the 5KP9.0CA, it begins to conduct current. This current is called a “transient”, and it often exceeds the overvoltage threshold of the system it is protecting. The 5KP9.0CA device then approaches its Peak Pulse Power A.K.A. “PPM”. PPM is the measure of the maximum transient current that the device is capable of conducting. It is typically specified in Amperes. This current is then conducted through the TVS diode, and the energy is dissipated by the TVS diode.
Due to its low internal capacitance, 5KP9.0CA are capable of disabling ESD surges that have a high frequency component which are often present in High-Speed Communication systems. This makes it ideal for protecting UART and USB signals at data rates up to 8Mbps.
The 5KP9.0CA also offers excellent peak pulse power performance. It can withstand pulses up to 16A without causing a permanent reduction in the breakdown voltage of the device. This makes the device particularly suitable for photocouplers, voltage converters and other components that require strong overvoltage protection.
