The adjustable current limiting resistor provides the necessary current limiting action, in parallel with the primary winding. The current limiting action of the resistor is controlled by applying a negative voltage to its floating terminal, while the voltage at its other terminal is monitored in order to detect any overload. This allows the 5MCLS-24R-A to provide a fast response to short-circuit and overload conditions, with no thermal damage to the components.

The working principle of this type of fuse puts two elements into play – one adjustable, and one fixed. The adjustable element is the current limiting resistor, whose resistance is varied by an externally adjustable voltage. The fixed element is the primary winding of the fuse, which limits the current in a non-adjustable way. The action of the two elements is combined to provide a current limiting protection from both short-circuiting and overloads.

The 5MCLS-24R-A fuse is designed for use on motors of any type, where additional protection is required against over current conditions. This fuse is also suitable for use in applications with electrical circuits rated up to 30A, such as the protection of transformer winding and light motor winding.
