Ring connectors are terminals used in assemblies or equipment for low-voltage connections and electrical wiring. Ring connectors have one ring-shaped contact surface that is pressed and sealed around the corresponding cable. 60325-2 is an international standard for specification for these types of ring connectors. This standard focuses on safety, construction, environmental testing, performance requirements and resistance to fire.

According to IEC 60325-2, most ring connectors are made of copper, brass or tin-plated copper. Copper is commonly used for connecting wires in ships, buildings and industrial applications due to its corrosion resistance properties. Brass is used for static connections, while tin-plated copper can be used in more flexible applications.

The working principle of 60325-2 compliant ring connectors is relatively simple. In order to ensure a perfect connection, 60325-2 compliant ring connectors must be properly crimped before installation. The terminals must be correctly inserted into the respective connectors, otherwise the sealing force of the sleeve might not be strong enough. Once the installation is complete, the terminals must be securely fastened using UL approved hardware.
