63257-2 is an international standard for equipment and safety requirements of protection against electric shock. It comprises of the essential requirements for electrical equipment in order to provide the necessary protection against physical injury. Additionally, the manufacturer should incorporate safe working practices such as not working on live electrical circuits and using protective devices. The 63257-2 standard also mandates the correct selection and installation of safety products such as automatic circuit breakers, isolators, earthed conductors and protective devices to minimize the risks of electric shock. Manufacturers must also conform to the edm standard for the protection of persons and electrical equipment against electric shock and should be supplied with instructions and information for the safe installation, operation, maintenance and repair of their products. The 63257-2 standard is to be used in conjunction with other related standards such as the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and the International Electrical Code (IEC).
