Working Principle

In case of an overload the fuse will interrupt the current flow. The fuse element is composed of a fragile strip of metal which breaks when current passes through it. The rate at which the fuse element breaks depends on the application and its load. If the overload current is fast-acting, the plasticized fuse material melts quickly and breaks abruptly.

The rate of blow-fusing is determined by the melting speed of the fuse element. This is known as the "melting time". The melting time is determined by the rate of heat generated by the current that passes through the fuse element. If the current passes through the fuse element very quickly, then the melting time will be short; however, if the current passes through the fuse element slowly, then the melting time will be longer.

Furthermore, 7010.9906.03 fuses also feature a trip-time indicator that indicates how long it takes the fuse to trip. This is useful for applications where precise trip-time measurements need to be taken. Since the trip-time is affected by the current level, the trip-time indicator can be used to verify the current load.
