Temperature Sensors - NTC Thermistors
NTC Thermistors are a type of temperature sensor which measures temperature by sensing the fluctuations in electrical resistance caused when temperature changes. They are widely used and familiar in the electronics industry due to their low cost and flexibility. The NTC thermistors can measure a wide range of temperatures from -55°C to over 300°C with an accuracy of around plus or minus 0.5°C.NTC thermistors are made from a semiconductor material, such as silicon. As the temperature increases, the electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases. This is because the hotter the material, the more energy it has, and the more free electrons it can pass along the circuit.
