A LOW on Chip Enable will set the device into high-impedance, effectively disconnecting the device from the system. When the Write Enable is active, the data is written to the address specified. When the Write Enable is inactive, the data is read from the address specified.

When the Output Enable is high, the data bus is pre-charged and will remain so until the Output Enable is taken low. When the Output Enable is taken low, the data stored at the address of the latch is driven onto the data bus and remains there until the Output Enable is taken high again.

The device can also be used in a Refresh mode by activating both the Chip Enable and the Address Strobe signals. This will allow for periodic refreshing of the memory for a period of time defined by the Refresh Period.
