Logic- Flip Flops are fundamental building blocks in digital logic and have been used in computers, communications and control systems. The 74ABT16273DL is a dual-edge triggered, dual-edge sensed, low-power, CMOS logic flip-flop providing the motionless capabilities of a D-type flip-flop.

Applications Fields

Working Principle

The 74ABT16273DL is an edge-triggered D type flip-flop meaning it is sensitive to transitions of the clock input. Upon a positive-going transition of the clock (low to high) the data will enter the flip-flop at the D input, and be transferred to the Q output. Upon a negative-going transition of the clock (high to low) the data will enter the flip-flop at the D-bar input, and be transferred to the Q-bar output.

When Reset is low, the Q and Q-bar outputs can be forced low regardless of the other input conditions. Conversely, when Set is low and Clock is high, the Q output will be forced high, and the Q-bar output will be forced low. For either the reset or set pin, allowing a clock transition while the input is asserted will result in the flip-flop data being invalid.

When Clear is low, both the Q and Q-bar outputs are forced low and are independent of the other control inputs. Consequently, a clock transition at the same time as the clear being active will not result in invalid data.

In addition to reset and set, the 74ABT16273DL also has a simultaneous master clock (SMCLK) and slave clock (SVCLK) that are used for the faster movement of data between flip-flops. When the SMCLK is asserted, the Q output of the master flip-flop will be transferred to the Q-bar output of the slave flip-flop. Then, when the SVCLK is asserted, the data will be transferred to the Q output of the slave flip-flop.

Therefore, the 74ABT16273DL provides a solution for faster movement of data by allowing a simultaneous dual-edge transfer when both SMCLK and SVCLK are asserted. This removes the requirement of the sequential single edges required to move the data.
