Buffer technology is the bridge between the interface logic levels of digital circuits. Modern devices must operate reliably at voltages that range from 5 volts to over 1.8 volts. To bridge the gap between logic families, logic designers today have an impressive assortment of logic families to support any voltage range. These devices, including buffers, drivers receivers and transceivers, are commonly used to convert the input and output signals of one logic family to meet the needs of external devices.The 74ABT541D,602 is a quad input, differential bus transceiver. It is part of the Advanced BiCMOS family of logic products offered by Texas Instruments. It is designed to support asynchronous interface logic levels in the three-state mode of operation. The two logic families supported are TTL and CMOS. Applications for this device include microprocessors, high speed peripheral bus drivers, multiplexers and demultiplexers.The 74ABT541D,602 is an input and output buffer designed to support both logic families. Outputs are free to sink current with a minimum sink current of 5.6mA at a minimum of 50mV below ground, and can source current with a minimum source current of 5.6mA at a minimum of 1.2 volts above Vcc.The 74ABT541D,602 has three-state outputs and two-level inputs, which are enabled or disabled with the EIO control pin. When EIO is high, the outputs are in three-state, and all circuitry is powered down. When EIO is low, the outputs are enabled, and the inputs are latched. The input states are maintained until the EIO pin is strobed to a high again.The device contains two sets of power and ground pins, two output enables (OE1, OE2), and two input enables (IE1 and IE2). This allows designers to break the inputs from the outputs. When either OE1 or OE2 is held low, the corresponding outputs are disabled and their states are turned to high impedance - effectively isolating the input from the output.When used in a bi-directional bus application, the device allows for both output and input signals to be routed on the same lines. When OE1 is low, output A is driven high, and IE1 is enabled, allowing the signals from the other end of the bus line to be received on Pin 13 (A). When OE2 is low, the output B is driven high, and IE2 is enabled, allowing the signals from the other end of the bus line to be received on Pin 10 (B).The 74ABT541D,602 has a number of advantages over other bi-directional bus buffer devices.
