The clock signal is what sets the two main operations of the flip-flop, which are the SET and RESET operations.The SET operation occurs when the clock input is ‘high’ and the J and K inputs are both ‘high’. This results in the Q and Q’ outputs both being ‘high’. The RESPET operation occurs when the clock input is ‘high’ and the K input is ‘high’ and the J input is ‘low’. This results in the Q and Q’ outputs both being ‘low’.The PRESET input will also override the J and K inputs as well as the clock signal. When the PRESET input is ‘high’ both the Q and Q’ outputs will be ‘high’ regardless of the states of the J and K inputs, or the state of the clock. Likewise the CLEAR input will override all other inputs and the Q and Q’ outputs will be ‘low’ when the CLEAR input is ‘high’.In conclusion, the 74AC74SC is a dual JK Flip-flop that has numerous applications ranging from data storage to signal routing and switch control.
