The 74ACTQ240PC is a high-speed quad transceiver designed to perform the dual-line-to-four-line and four-line-to-dual-line data protocols used in high-speed/low voltage logic systems. It features ±2.5mA output drive capability, and a CL (Coupling-link) pin linkable to other CL pins of adjacent devices. The 74ACTQ240PC is designed to eliminate the external glue logic associated with the traditional four-line between the bus lines.

74ACTQ240PC can be used in Synchronous Peripheral Interface Bus (SPI), Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) applications, etc. It can also be used to interface between high-speed logic and slower memory devices, such as EPROMs, or to support a host of direct to card interfaces.

Sometimes 74ACTQ240PC is used to connect between a low-speed/low-voltage bus such as the Honeywell Low Voltage CMOS Bus (LVCMOS) to a higher voltage bus. It can also be used for data acquisition and migration, in particular for portable and embedded systems. In these applications, the low speed and low voltage interface is used for data inputs from sensors, and the quad transceiver converts the data from the low speed interface to a high speed, higher voltage format for output.

Working Principle of 74ACTQ240PC

The 74ACTQ240PC is a quad transceiver, meaning that it can transmit data in both directions. Data is sent to the device through the 4-bit data bus (D0–D3) and the select signals A0 and A1. Data can be sent in either a bidirectional or unidirectional mode. A0 and A1 have a pull-down resistors connected internally, so that when the pins are not actively driven, the transceiver will select the direction of the data flow as all inputs (unidirectional mode).

The device features four open-drain drivers (Q0–Q3) which are enabled when E (Enable) signal is HIGH. The CL (Coupling Link) pin is used to connect two or more 74ACTQ240PCs together. This allows the devices to operate together and helps in reducing the number of control signals in the system. The CL pin is also connected to a pull-up resistor. When not connected to another device, the CL pin will be in a HIGH state.

The 74ACTQ240PC provides two sets of receivers (Y0–Y3 and Z0–Z3). The receivers are enabled when the SEL signal is LOW. When the SEL signal is HIGH, all of the receivers will be in a high-impedance state, thus allowing data communication in either direction without the need of built-in logic gates.
