The 74ACTQ646SC is a high-speed bus transceiver with six-bit non-inverting buffers/line drivers and six-bit inverting buffers/line receivers. It is designed for interfacing TTL-level data lines to and from medium-speed bipolar TTL applications where slow rise and fall are permissible. This transceiver is designed to meet the requirements of ANSI Standards EIA/TIA-422-B and EIA/TIA-485-A, thus providing an optimal solution for a variety of half-duplex and four-wire full-duplex applications.
The transceiver is a member of the family of SN74ACTQ series of transceivers. The SN74ACTQ646SC utilizes an advanced Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) CMOS technology to achieve high speed with low power. It uses six-bit non-inverting line drivers and six-bit inverting line receivers for data transmission and reception, respectively. Its drivers, receivers and high speed operation capabilities make this transceiver well-suited for multipoint data transmission on bus types and applications such as EIA/TIA-485 and EIA/TIA-422.
The SN74ACTQ646SC consists of six bidirectional line drivers and receivers in the following configuration: three non-inverting four-bit drivers, three inverting four-bit receivers, three non-inverting two-bit drivers, and three inverting two-bit receivers. Each transmitter is capable of outputting a TTL-level data clock under TTL control. The drivers and receivers, as configured, allow this device to satisfy EIA/TIA-422 and EIA/TIA-485 applications.
Working principle and operation with this device is quite simple. Pins 1-6 are utilized as the inputs for the non-inverting four-bit drivers, pins 7-12 are the outputs of those same drivers, pins 13-18 are the inputs for the inverting four-bit receivers, pins 19-24 are the outputs of those receivers, pins 25-27 are the inputs for the non-inverting two-bit drivers and pins 28-30 are the outputs of those drivers.
Pins 31-34 are the inputs for the inverting two-bit receivers and pins 35-37 are the outputs of those receivers. Pin 38 is the chip select input and pin 39 is the output enable input. A logic high on any of the chip select inputs will enable the non-inverting and inverting drivers/receivers. The low logic level applied to the chip select inputs will disable all of these functions. Logic low on the output enable pin will enable all of the drivers/receivers.
When enabled, the 74ACTQ646SC transceiver will accept TTL-level input data at pins 1-6. This data will then be transmitted on BUS A at pins 7-12 or BUS B at pins 13-18. This data transmitted is pulled up to the supply voltage source for proper operation. When enable is logic low, the outputs will be tri-stated.
The receivers at pins 31-34 are also TTL-level and will accept input data in the form of signals on buses A and B. This data is then transmitted on pins 19-24 and 25-30 when the output enable line is low. When the output enable line is in a high state, the receivers are off and will remain in a high-impedance state.
The 74ACTQ646SC transceiver is well-suited for high-speed communication between fast TTL circuits. It is designed to meet the stringent requirements of ANSI standards EIA/TIA-422 and EIA/TIA-485. The transceiver is fast, has high drive capabilities, and consumes minimal power. This device can be utilized in a variety of applications from multidrop applications to multipoint data transmissions.
