The 74AVCH8T245PW is a member of the Advanced CMOS (AC) family of logic-level translators, level shifters, and buffer gates designed to increase system performance by operating with very low supply currents over a wide voltage range. This device features a low-voltage (3.0 V to 3.6 V) CMOS input Logic Family and a higher-voltage (5.0 V to 5.5 V) CMOS output Logic Family. The 74AVCH8T245PW is capable of translating from one family to another with no power-supply sequencing. This device offers very low propagation delay times (6 ns typically at 5 V).
The 74AVCH8T245PW provides a wide range of applications in logic-level translation use cases such as embedded control and communications, smart grid and automation systems, industrial infrastructure, servers, and consumer products. It also offers applications in logic buffers, or level shifting, where low voltage operation is a requirement. The device is ideal for shorting out hot-swap cards and boards, while ensuring the fast data communication in the next application.
The 74AVCH8T245PW works by translating the logic of two input/output voltage levels (VCCA and VCCB) between two different logic families. The device is constructed of two differential pairs, one pair connected to VCCA and the other pair connected to VCCB. The differential pairs are connected in a cross-coupled arrangement to drive a complementary output. A power supply current draw is minimized when the input goes high. An on-chip logic-level translation circuit is used for VOL and VOH translation.
The 74AVCH8T245PW also uses an active pull-up circuit for level translation. The pull-up circuit is driven by an on-chip transistor, which is supplied with power from VCCB.
