74FCT16245ETPVG8 is a high-performance, non-inverting 3-state octal buffer/line driver with three-state outputs. It is designed to provide improved PC board density when used in bus-oriented applications. The device is true non-inverting buffer/drivers that provide full on-chip buffering of the data enabling them to drive bus lines or act as a buffer in bidirectional bus systems. The device features reduced ground bounce during switching which eliminates the need for external damping. The device can be connected to common bus structures with three-state outputs reducing the number of drivers necessary.

Working Principle

The 74FCT16245ETPVG8 consists of eight bidirectional buffer/drivers with 3-STATE outputs and eight parallel enabled 3-STATE buffers. Data present at the A inputs is passed to the corresponding Y output as long as the output enable input (OE) is low. When OE is high, the outputs are in the high-impedance off-state. Each driver has an active low output enable input. Outputs that are enabled will enter the high-impedance off-state if both their respective enables are high.

The 4-bit input (A0-A3) or (A4-A7) must be valid logic levels unless the particular driver is in the off-state. When OE is high all outputs are in the high-impedance off-state. When OE is low and the outputs are enabled, the outputs enter the high-impedance off-state if both their respective input enables are high. If either one of the input enables is low, the corresponding output will be an active LOW, HIGH, or Z depending on the state of the D input.

The 3-STATE output buffer provides for each object the highest possible current to any bus line that is connected to each output. The 3-STATE output buffer is enabled whenever both enable control inputs are low. The enable control inputs are internally level-shifted to VCC and VCCq.
