The 74HC161PW,118 is a 4 bit synchronous presettable binary counter which contains a look-ahead carry circuit. The LE input is active-low and enables cascading. It has an asynchronous low-active MR input which will reset the counter contents to its preset value.The device uses a 4-bit binary down-counter consisting of four synchronously clocked D-type flip-flop. Each clock pulse will cause the output of the modulo-16 counter to decrease by one count. On reaching zero, the counter is reset to the preset value which is the new initial value. A low active LE input enables cascading of the device by allowing the output T of the last counter in a series to become the clock input of the next counter without delay. The asynchronous MR input provides a low-active master reset which will preset the counter with the initial value stored in the internal memory. This preset value will remain until the next LE pulse.Conclusion
