The 74HCT4052DB is a CMOS logic-compatible digital circuit device belonging to the family of Analog Switches, Multiplexers, Demultiplexers. It is an 8-channel analog switch / mux / demux family and is designed to enable signals to be multiplexed reducing controller pin count, PCB space and cost.
The 74HCT4052DB provides eight switches with bidirectional digital control which can be used to multiplex a range of analog signals including digital-to-analog (DAC) and analog-to-digital (ADC) signals. It features low on-state resistance (typically 160 ohm) and low signal attenuation (0.2dB at 1MHz). The 74HCT4052DB is perfect for applications such as audio sample and hold, data routing, signal gating and signal mixing.
The device comes with an operating voltage range (VCC) of 2.5V to 5.5V. It is characterized up to –55° to 125°C and features Schmitt trigger overvoltage/undervoltage protection. It also features thermal shutdown protection, low power consumption (typical 5 µA over a 2.5V to 5.5V VCC range) and wide signal switching. The 74HCT4052DB is available in a 9x9x1.45mm QFN48 Surface Mounted Package.
The 74HCT4052DB’s application field includes but is not limited to: battery management systems, multimedia/entertainment systems, automotive audio systems, GPS navigation systems, healthcare and medical devices, security systems and many industrial applications.
Working Principle
The 74HCT4052DB allows each one of the eight channels to be individually switched on or off depending on the control signal. When the control signal is ‘high’, the channel is switched on and when the control signal is \'low\', its off. This allows analog signals to be switched on or off to pass through the multiplexer.
Logic \'1\' is powered by a voltage (VCC) and logic ‘0’ is gated by a GND connection. A logic ‘1’ on the LE control signal enables the desired analog signal to be routed to the output. The other two control inputs, A0 and A1 are address inputs used to select which analog signal is routed to the output. These signals are interfaced with the 4:1 multiplexer in a digital 2-bit binary code or a 3-bit Gray Code.
The 74HCT4052DB also has a enable input (EI) that can further control the flow of the signal. If EI is tied to VCC then the device is enabled and analog signals can be routed to the output. If EI is tied to GND then all analog channels are isolated from the output.
The 74HCT4052DB is an ideal device for selecting and routing signals in multiplex applications. It is easy to use and the signal can be routed with the help of the control input and address input signals without any latency.
