74VHCT240ASJ consists of four independent open drain 3-state buffers that buffers four bits of data to many different destinations. The 3-state of each buffer consists of two active low control states and one Tri-state state. The two active low control states are active low output, which controls the output state of the buffer and active low output enable that controls the output state of the buffer. During data transfer, the active low outputs of the buffers produce logic “1s” when enabled, and logic “0s” when disabled. All the four buffers have an active low input that can be used to decode address transitions. 74VHCT240ASJ has an active low enable pin for each buffer which can be used to prevent the output of the buffer from changing state until the active low enable pin is triggered.
The Tri-state control signals enables and disables the Transistor-Transistor Logic gate within each buffer. When the active low Tri-state control signal is at logic “1” voltage level, the buffer is enabled and produces its output depending on the active low input.
