Snap Action, Limit Switches
83882112 is a type of snap action limit switch, which is composed of two movable metal contacts and a metal bar or actuator. It senses an electric current passing through one or more metal contact points, which react when the current exceeds a certain threshold. When this threshold is exceeded, the contacts will snap, and the electric current will be switched off. The electric current is then redirected to another set of contacts, and the electric current will continue to flow until the electric current is again exceeded or the current is redirected back to the original contact points.
Application field
Snap action limit switches are used in many applications ranging from consumer electric appliances to industrial automation devices. They are commonly used in washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, coffee makers, commercial electric motors and vacuum cleaners. They are also used in various parts of medical devices, flammable materials control systems, robotics and other industrial automation systems..
Working Principles
The snap action switch is activated when the pressure, temperature, or other sensed parameter is exceeded. A sensor is attached to the switch, which senses the parameter of interest and triggers a switch when it increases beyond a certain threshold. The pressure, temperature, or other parameter that activates the switch is referred to as the switch\'s set-point. Upon this triggering, a metal bar or actuator is moved in order to open or close the electric contacts, allowing the electric current to flow or to be turned off accordingly. The electric contacts then stay in whatever position they were put in until they are manually reset or the set-point is again sensed.
Types
Snap action limit switches are available in a variety of forms. Most common are the single pole, double throw switch, which is used when only one circuit needs to be switched on or off. The double pole, double throw switch is used when two circuits need to be switched on or off. There are also single pole, single throw switch and double pole, single throw switch, which are used when only one circuit needs to be switched on or off, but the two poles need to operate independently. Specialty snap action switches are also available, such as any switches. These can be configured to operate with multiple circuits simultaneously or in sequence.
Advantages
The main advantage of a snap action switch over a standard switch is its speed and sensitivity. Because the contact points can snap quickly and the set-point can be adjusted to be extremely sensitive, the snap action switch can react faster and more accurately to changes in the sensed parameter than a standard switch. This makes them ideal for applications where fast, accurate switching is required, such as in robotics or medical devices. Snap action switches are also more reliable than other types of switches, since the contacts are made out of metal and require no lubrication.
Disadvantages
The main disadvantage of a snap action switch is its limited range of motion. The switch cannot move more than the distance of the actuator, which is usually a few millimeters at most. This means that the switch can only sense changes that happen in a certain range, making it unsuitable for applications that require an extended range of motion or a wide range of set-points. Also, most snap action switches are limited to one pole, which can make them unsuitable for complex circuitry.
