Reed relays are electrical switches activated by an applied magnetic field. They are made up of a hermetically sealed reed switch encased in a thin tube made of insulating material, along with a magnetically sensitive coil, and are mainly used for applications such as computers, communications equipment, consumer electronics, and industrial automation. The 9081-24-00 reed relay is a common type of reed relay used in a wide range of applications.The 9081-24-00 reed relay is composed of a number of components, including an armature, a solenoid magnet, a micro-switch, a bobbin, a contact claw, and a metallic plate. The armature, or splashed device, is a thin film of nonmagnetic material, usually an alloy of iron, nickel and cobalt, that acts as a container for the solenoid magnet and bobbin. The solenoid is a cylindrical magnet that produces a magnetic field when energized. This magnetic field is used to actuate the contact claw, which is a spring-loaded device that makes or breaks the electrical connection between the contact terminals when the coil is energized or de-energized. The micro-switch is used to sense the current flow in the contact terminals and the metallic plate is used to shield the entire reed relay assembly from electromagnetic interference.The 9081-24-00 reed relay is primarily used in applications such as computers, communications equipment, consumer electronics, and industrial automation. In these applications, the reed relay is used to switch high voltages in very small packages, typically uesd to switch between two different electrical circuits. The 9081-24-00 reed relays are also used in applications where precise timing is required, such as in medical, radio, and automation systems. Additionally, they are used in applications where space is at a premium, such as portable electronics or instrumentation packages, and in applications requiring very low power consumption, such as in battery operated devices.In operation, the 9081-24-00 reed relay has two distinct states, one in which the electrical connection between the contact terminals is open and one in which the electrical connection is closed. When the coil is energized, the magnet within the armature produces a magnetic field which moves the contact claw and closes the contact terminals, which results in a closed circuit. When the coil is de-energized, the magnetic field dissipates and the contact claw returns to its original position, breaking the electrical connection. The reed relay can be used for switching either AC or DC and is up to 5 times faster than a mechanical relay.The 9081-24-00 reed relays are particularly useful for applications in which space is limited and precise timing is needed. Their low power consumption also makes them ideal for battery operated devices. Moreover, their ability to switch between AC and DC currents with no loss of performance makes them extremely versatile and reliable. For these reasons, reed relays are becoming increasingly popular in a wide range of applications.
