Neons
Neon lamps work on the same principle as incandescents, but unlike their more common counterpart, they do not have a tungsten filament. Instead, they contain a tube filled with noble gas, like nitrogen or neon, which emit ultraviolet radiation when current is passed through. This radiation is converted into visible colored light when exposed to the phosphors that coat the inner walls of the tube. Neon lamps are often used in signage, advertising, and decorations due to their ability to produce intense, vibrant colors. They are also becoming increasingly popular in energy-efficient residential applications, thanks to their low power draw and long life.
Application Fields and Working Principles
