A1688LUBTN-L-T is a Magnetic Sensors – Switches (Solid State). This type of device is generally used in an electromechanical system to measure the presence and/or state of a magnetic field. The A1688LUBTN-L-T is a High Temperature Hall-Effect Sensors, utilizing Hall-effect technology. The Hall-effect is a physical phenomenon, discovered by Edwin Hall in 1879, where a voltage is generated perpendicular to a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field. This magnetic field causes a current imbalance between two internal contacts in the sensing transistor which, in turn, allows for a voltage drop proportional to the external magnetic field strength.
The A1688LUBTN-L-T is used to sense the presence and/or state of a magnetic field in a reliable and cost-effective manner. It operates on a bipolar supply and has a wide operating temperature range of –40°C to 85°C. The unit also features an open-drain output, making it suitable for both low-current as well as high-current switching applications. It has a quiescent current of approximately 24µA and an off-state leakage current of less than 1µA.
The A1688LUBTN-L-T utilizes an innovative Hall-effect sensing circuit which enables a wide variety of applications. It features a sensing angle of nearly 180° and a hysteresis of 40mV. Its operating condition has been optimized for switching with a pull-in voltage of 45mV and a release (detection) voltage of 25mV, thus ensuring reliable and accurate operation. Additionally, the device has stable switching characteristics over a wide range of temperatures, enabling reliable operation in most environments.
The working principle of the A1688LUBTN-L-T is simple: when a magnetic field is applied, a voltage will be generated. This voltage is proportional to the applied field and will be sensed by the Hall-effect sensing circuit. In the absence of a magnetic field, the unit will remain in a low-output state. When the field is applied, it will switch to a high-output state. This switch activates a circuit and can be used for any number of applications, from position sensors to speed sensors.
