Magnetic sensors, also known as reed switches, are typically used for providing reliable detection of targets or objects. The A3340ELHLT-T is a reed switch designed specifically for high temperature applications and uses a dual-channel Hall IC (Integrated Circuit) for sensing direction and magnet distance. It’s a complete package that combines a high-temperature resistant (and programmable) switch, and a temperature insensitive IC, providing reliable operation in harsh environments.

The A3340ELHLT-T has a working principle based on the magnetically induced Hall voltage. When a permanent magnet moves toward a Hall element, the voltage across the Hall element increases, whereas the voltage diminishes when the magnet is moved away. By placing two magnets on either side of the Hall element and measuring the difference between both Hall voltages, a relative displacement can be deduced.

The A3340ELHLT-T includes two Hall elements that can detect the presence of magnetic objects. It is equipped with a temperature stable IC which provides a regulated reference voltage to the Hall elements and monitors the differential voltage between the two. The two Hall elements and IC are encapsulated in a high temperature ceramic package, and the device is ideal for use in high temperature applications. The device can be programmed for two configuration modes: Magnet Detection and Distance Detection.

In the Magnet Detection Mode, the presence of a magnetic pattern can be sensed by detecting the difference in the Hall voltages when two magnets are placed in close proximity. If the magnets are placed too far apart, the differential voltage will be zero. In the Distance Detection Mode, the specific distance between the two magnets can be determined, and the output will vary depending on the distance between them. For this mode, the Hall transistor output will be used as the Hall voltage to monitor the displacement of the magnetic field.

The A3340ELHLT-T can be used in a wide range of applications, such as automotive, factory automation, and consumer electronics. It can also be used for detecting the presence of any magnetized object and for determining its specific distance from the device. The device is designed to be highly reliable and is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 125°C.
