A6595KLW Application Field and Working Principle
As the name implies, The A6595KLW is a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC - Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers). It is designed to provide an enhanced solution for demanding power management applications.
A6595KLW General Description
The A6595KLW, produced by Allegro MicroSystems, is a power distribution switch and load driver. It features four channels: three independent “High-Side” switch channels and one two-phase low-side switch channel. The A6595KLW is offered in three versions: a 4-channel single-ended version, two 3-channel differential versions, and two 2-channel differential versions. The A6595KLW is configured for positive switching, enabling efficient, high source current and low source voltage operation from a single supply voltage. The device features single-wire and dual-switch configurations, allowing it to control multiple switches with the same logic control pins.
For the single-ended version, the “High-Side” switches use non-isolated, n-channel MOSFETs, while the two-phase synchronous buck switch utilizes a negative-voltage p-channel MOSFET. Both of these MOSFETS operate with very low resistance and minimal leakage current, resulting in low thermal wastage and providing a high level of efficiency, reliability and flexibility.
A6595KLW Applications
These devices are primarily used in power-supply designs requiring high-current transfer and high frequency switching. Typical applications of these devices include Multiple Load Driver, Power Distribution Switches and Suppression Switches for Standby, MAN and Automotive applications. The four independent MOSFETs can also provide excellent solutions for complex switched power supply and energy savings applications. These devices are suitable for both DC and AC switching, making them ideal for a wide range of applications.
Features and Benefits
- Input voltage 2.5V to 20V.
- High transfer current (up to 10A).
- Quiescent current up to a few µA.
- Low RDSon and fast switching speed.
- High-side and low-side switch configurations.
- High-current transfer capability.
- Compact size.
- Very low EMI emission.
A6595KLW Working Principle
The A6595KLW combines a high-side switch and a low-side switch in a single integrated package. Each of the four channels has its own independent logic control pin. When logic high is present at any one of the logic control pins, the respective MOSFETs turn-on and complete its power switch path. When logic low is present, the respective MOSFETs turn-off and the corresponding power switch path is disconnected. Both high-side and low-side switches feature extremely low ON-resistance, fast off-times and low supply current.
The synchronous buck switch (low-side) uses two High-side switches and a differential N-channel MOSFET in a single integrated package. The synchronous buck switch is capable of higher current due to its low RDSon and leakage current, while providing efficiency and reliability. The high-side switch includes both “open load” and “short circuit” protection features to avoid damage to the device due to external faults.
Conclusion
In summary, the A6595KLW provides a superior solution for a wide variety of demanding power management applications. Its combination of high-current transfer and fast switching capability, along with its low leakage current, make it ideal for multiple load driver, power distribution switch, and suppression switch applications. Its small size and efficient operation make it an excellent choice in applications where space and energy savings are important.
