A6986 is a voltage-regulating DC-DC Switching Regulators developed by Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. in their flagship PMIC – Voltage Regulators range. It is designed for synchronous rectification application such as buck power supplies and point-of-load (PoL) regulator circuits. It has been used in a range of waveforms such as continuous (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM).

A6986 provides a fully programmable DC current limit, a leading-edge blanking structure that effectively eliminates shoot-through current in the integrated switching transistor, and a built-in loop compensation for controlling the response rate. Moreover, its operation frequency is adjustable up to 5 MHz and its peak current regulation is 5% accuracy. Its current limitation range makes it suitable for a variety of applications such as voltage-converter applications and intelligent PoL regulators.

The A6986 switching regulator is built using a typical buck-type circuit architecture and features regulation accuracy over a wide input voltage and current range. Its wide input voltage range allows it to accept up to 2 volts of input and up to 4 amps of output, making it ideal for applications that require high output power levels and low input voltage ranges. The A6986 is equipped with an integrated Current Sensing, Error Amplifier, and Over-current Protection function. The Error Amplifier processes the output voltage and current signals to provide error signals and provide control of the output voltage.
