A6986S is a DC-DC switching regulator integrated circuit (IC). It is part of the PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Regulators family. It is a high-efficiency buck regulator specifically designed to operate in a wide input voltage range from 9V to 75V while providing a regulated output voltage. The A6986S takes advantage of Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) technology and integrates many components, including the power MOSFET and voltage loop compensation, into a single chip, greatly simplifying the design-in process and lowering total solution cost.

The A6986S includes a monolithic N-channel power MOSFET which is capable of delivering over 13A (14A peak) of continuous output current and an internal soft start startup current flow. The onboard power MOSFET has a low RDS(ON) of 12.6mΩ when driving full load. In addition, the device includes an internal voltage loop control circuit and compensation components, along with a built-in protection circuit to prevent over-current, over-voltage, and thermal shutdown.

The A6986S is compatible with leading-edge digital power management systems. In addition to the comprehensive protections, it has a built-in Digital Temperature Compensation (DTC) allowing the regulator to adjust its output voltage depending on the temperature in order to compensate for temperature-induced effects on the output voltage accuracy. It also features built-in PMBus compatible read/write pins for remote monitoring and features.
